Why I Don’t Recommend Books to Beginner Mediums
WHY I DON’T RECOMMEND BOOKS
TO BEGINNER MEDIUMS
At the beginning of my mediumship development everything was magical and amazing and I wanted to learn anything and everything I could get my hands on about the spirit world.
And so many of you have told me a similar story; asking for book recommendations, so you can learn as much as you can, too. (It actually came up in circle this week, so I wanted to talk about it here!)
However, I’ve learned A LOT through this development journey and want to help you avoid some of the struggles that I went through.
So with that… here’s why I don’t give out book recommendation lists to beginner mediums.
INFORMATION OVERLOAD
We tend to read ALL the books AND listen to podcasts AND watch youtube videos.
BUT, instead of inspiring you, it can leave you feeling overwhelmed which keeps you from making progress and moving forward.
CONFLICTING INFORMATION
Is mediumship a gift or not?
Which way is the “right” way?
Am I doing it wrong?
Do I need to protect myself or don’t I?
Am I on the right path?
I need to meditate to connect? No wait, I need to clear my chakras first.
If you ask 100 different mediums, you’ll get 100 different answers, which only leads to confusion and frustration.
PROCRASTINATION
I was soooo guilty of this one! Learning and “research” can feel like you're doing a lot, but it can be so easy to get stuck here.
At a certain point, all the learning through books (and videos and podcasts) are really just a brilliant excuse to avoid doing the thing.
HERE’S WHAT I DO RECOMMEND INSTEAD
BE DISCERNING
Learning from books definitely has value, so if you find one that speaks to you - read it. But be discerning.
Anyone can write a book.
And just because they’re an author doesn’t make them an expert (hint: no one is). Their writing will be through the lens of their own belief systems and life experiences.
Their truth doesn’t have to be your truth, so take what resonates and leave the rest.
WATCH OTHER MEDIUMS WORK
Pay attention to the types of evidence they give and the phrases they use. What do you like about the way they work, how do they treat their sitters. Notice what you DON'T like about their style of mediumship or their readings. I learned so much about what NOT to do from watching other mediums work!
GET OUT THERE A PRACTICE
You knew that was coming, didn’t you?
The best way to learn is to actually get out there and do the thing!
You can have all the knowledge in the world, but the real learning comes from hands on experience.
NEED GUIDANCE AND SUPPORT?
If the idea of finding a practice partner and giving a reading makes your chest tighten into a knot and you suddenly NEED to scrub all the baseboards in your house instead, I’ve got you!
In my mentorship program, Connect with Confidence, I teach a repeatable, step-by-step process that makes it simple and easy to connect with spirit every time, so you can get started with your mediumship development feeling confident in yourself and your abilities.
